Spellbound
Production design. This is a musical about divorce that explores the tensions of separation and the construction of a new understanding of family through the lens of a teenager. The production design challenge was to develop two different worlds, one for the mother and another for the father, that felt alien to each other, which would eventually come together in a delicate balance to construct this family’s environment. Locations were designed as theatrical stages, where every element was carefully composed to belong in a musical number, from the props and patterns on the surfaces to the lighting and mood. The environment in this film, more than just background, was also understood as a character, constantly transforming, accompanying the hero, and experiencing the same journey.
